Outstanding athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball at Morganton High School. Won 11 Varsity Letters, four year starter in baseball and basketball, three year starter in football. Captain in all three sports senior year.

Four year letterman in Football and Two year Letterman in baseball at Appalachian State University. Named All-Conference and All-State in Football in 1961. President of the Monogram Club 1960-1961, Who’s Who among students in American Universities and Colleges 1962.
