Graduated Morganton High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete.
He was Captain for both football and baseball teams. He earned
All-conference and All-State recognition and played in the
1953 Optimist Bowl.


He attended Elon College (now Elon University), on scholarship for
baseball. He also ran track and played football. Bridges was the
first person in Elon history to run the 100-yard dash in under 10 seconds
(9.8 seconds). His record stood for 20 years. He also established records
for the 200–yard dash and the fastest mile relay leg.


Opened Carolina Athletic Supply Sporting Good store in Greensboro NC.
In 1976 he was credited for creating the first camouflage chest waders,
and sold the concept to Converse Rubber Company. He became the first
NC Life sponsor for Ducks Unltd.


He was appointed to the NC Wildlife Resource Commission, where he
created the NC Lifetime hunting and fishing license. The Endowment
has raised 165 million 5/2021

Eddie Bridges was inducted into the NC Sports Hall of Fame
as the first Hunting and Fishing Conservationist.

Eddie Bridges would always say, “Divine Order brought him many blessings”. His efforts for Creating Bridges to the Outdoors for future generations will last for many generations to come. He is the only person with four National Conservation Awards
