Art was a three sport star in football, baseball and basketball at Hildebran High School.
He made All-State Basketball.
Art played in the East/West All Star Game and was game MVP.
He also played American Legion Baseball for the Hickory, NC team.
1959-1962
Art played basketball for the University of South Carolina.
Art averaged 19 points a game in 79 games during his career at USC.
Art ranked 11th on USC career scoring list with 1505 points.
Art ranked 11th on USC career rebound list with 723 rebounds.
Art ranked 1st with 880 free throw attempts during his career.
Art was a three time All-ACC Team selection.
1962
Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 5th.round.
1962-1974
Art played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (oldest amateur basketball tournament in the United States).
Named PIT All-Tournament team three times from 1962-1964.
2001
Art was elected to the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.
2013
Art was named to the ACC Basketball Book of Fame Charting Top 78 Players.
2016
Art was elected to the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.
